The 10th Annual Last Lecture, recognizing graduating students for their contributions to the Mount Allison and Tantramar communities, was held on March 26.

Commerce professor Dr. Moe Hashemi was chosen by the Class of 2024 to deliver their Last Lecture — From Leadership to Communityship: The Heart, the Heat, and the Harmony of Good Teamwork.

The annual Passing of the Cane ceremony saw the 2024 Grad Class President Matheus Crepaldi passing the ceremonial cane to 2025 Grad Class President Victoria McCarvell in a ceremony that has taken place annually on campus since 1930. Each class president’s name is engraved onto the cane as a lasting tribute.

On March 25, a new Mounties 4 Mental Health (M4MH) student group was launched at Mount Allison. The group is focused on positively impacting the mental health and wellness of student-athletes at Mount Allison through education, awareness, and initiatives. Follow: @mounties4mentalhealth

The Mounties 4 Mental Health builds on the initiative that was started two years ago by founding members Matt Thomson (‘11) and Jon Graves (‘15), supporting healthy dialogue and suicide awareness, intervention, and prevention training on campus in memory of a football teammate.

Psychology professor Dr. Alison O’Connor explores how lying evolves across our lifespans with new research funding through the SSHRC’s Insight Development Grant, the CFI’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF), and ResearchNB.

“Lying decreases as you age into later life, but we still are telling lies. It’s this pervasive social behaviour. So how does that affect us socially? How does that affect our relationships? How does that relate to how we feel about ourselves and our identity?”

Securing funding from multiple sources has been instrumental in expanding the scope of O’Connor’s research and offering more opportunities for student involvement through the Lifespan Lab at Mount Allison.
