Position description

Reporting directly to the Director, Accessibility and Student Wellness, the Accessibility Services Advisor will provide front-line services to students with disabilities through fulfilling the responsibilities listed below. It should be noted that this position may require irregular hours of work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line services to students with disabilities, in the following areas:
    • determine eligibility for support services ensuring that documentation for services meets standards
    • drop-in advice
    • create and maintain records/files for individual clients
    • implement academic accommodations
    • assist with invigilation of tests and exams
    • consult and liaise with faculty/staff
    • provide learning and personal skills training where appropriate
    • manage accommodation software technology and track supports
    • provide assistive technology guidance
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Provide training and guidance to faculty and staff
  • Review and update materials used in the operations of the Meighen Centre

Qualifications/skills

  • The successful candidate will have a degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Education or other related discipline. Additional formal or professional education, such as a post-graduate degree (e.g. B.Ed. BSW), a Master’s degree, or professional certificates or training (Mental Health First Aid Instruction, Human Rights Theory, Assistive Technology, Universal Design for Learning, etc.) would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities in a professional setting
  • Working knowledge of various disabilities and needs as well as appropriate accommodations.
  • Working knowledge of assistive technology and computer programs (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive)
  • Capability to manage student staff
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent organizational skills
