Position description

You know us as Canada’s leading liberal arts university.
We’re also a place where creative change-makers explore entrepreneurship as both a valuable skill set and a viable career path.

As we foster a spirit of entrepreneurship across campus, we’re looking for a seasoned entrepreneur to share their experience and wisdom with our students.

Could you be our next Entrepreneur in Residence?
Passionate about supporting students in achieving their entrepreneurial goals, to act as our Entrepreneur in Residence for the 2024-2025 academic year (September to May).

You could be a great fit if you:
•    Have owned a business for at least three years.
•    Are comfortable working with students from all disciplines, including fine arts, business, humanities, sciences, and social sciences.
•    Get excited about the ways that entrepreneurship can make a positive impact on the world.
•    Enjoy encouraging people to articulate and achieve their vision.
•    Love acting as a “connector,” linking people with common interests.
•    Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups that traditionally face barriers to business success, such as women, newcomers, members of the BIPOC community, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with learning disabilities.

The role
Working closely with the Experiential Learning and Career Development team, you’ll create a plan for the academic year to support current and potential student entrepreneurs and to raise the profile of entrepreneurship on campus.

Using your expertise, experience and connections, you will plan and/or deliver workshops on different topics related to entrepreneurship, organize guest speakers, work with local incubators and business development organizations, as well as Mount Allison’s Department of Commerce, assist with the planning and execution of pitch competitions, work with students individually and in groups to provide coaching, and facilitate networking opportunities. We are also open to creative suggestions for engaging with students!

Qualifications/skills

Time & Compensation
The time commitment will be approximately 5 hours per week during each term (September to mid-December and January to mid-May). This is an average, some weeks may require slightly more time (for example, Entrepreneurship Week from November 18-22) while others will require less. It will be completely flexible to best suite the Entrepreneur-in-Residence and get the most engagement from students.

Some of your time each week will likely be spent coaching students both individually and in groups, and the rest on planning and executing entrepreneurship programming for all students.

This is a contract position  and will be compensated at $5,000/term for your contributions.
