Position description

Reporting to the Director of Experiential Learning and Career Development the incumbent will provide leadership to the Mount Allison community at large by designing and delivering co-curricular components of experiential learning programs, and by supporting the development and evolution of the experiential education portfolio. They will take the lead on new projects related to student experiential learning and help grow and enhance signature programs for the department. This includes but is not limited to programs related to internships, competency-based learning, entrepreneurial thinking, career development, and new initiatives.

As the ideal candidate, you will be knowledgeable about experiential learning and education, and are passionate about developing programs and resources that foster entrepreneurial thinking. You are self-motivated, results oriented, well organized, and have a keen eye for detail. You also have the interpersonal skills and judgement to work with people collaboratively where possible or provide direction as needed, to ensure the new initiatives and programs of the department are developed and delivered. You are a relationship builder, who is excited about learning and growing alongside our students to create meaningful partnerships within the Mount Allison and Sackville communities.
 
Position Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, deliver and track learning programs for the Internship Program.
    • For interns: lead and facilitate the Internship Orientation program, individual goalsetting, the summer/employment reflection, end of internship meta-reflection, helping students to link their experience to academic learning
    • For employers: develop and implement a program to support a successful internship, a mid-process check-in and a debriefing process
  • Develop, update and deliver competency-based training and programs
  • Develop entrepreneurial thinking and innovation programs and resources in collaboration with faculty and external partners
  • Manage community service learning projects emerging out of Experiential Learning and Career Development activities
  • Participate in the exploration and creation of new and innovative certificates or courses that support the articulation of experiential education; act as a faculty liaison supporting, when requested, experiential education within the curricular context
  • Remain current on the literature related to experiential learning to consider how new and creative approaches can be incorporated into the Mount Allison program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/skills

  • A Master’s degree in a related discipline would be an asset (e.g. MBA or Masters in organizational or people-related disciplines like social psychology, psychology, sociology, education, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiarity with the theoretical foundations of experiential learning and education
  • Previous experience working in a university environment
  • Strong research and writing skills with experience writing project proposals and reports
  • Strong communications skills: oral, written; listening, reading; use of social media and video skills desirable; meeting and group discussion facilitation skills
  • Proven project management skills
  • A team player who can identify common goals and work with a diverse group to move those goals forward
  • A positive role model who can mentor students and contribute to a positive work culture
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development
