Position description

Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications, the Videographer conceives and produces video content for websites and social media. The primary focus of this position is on creating compelling content for prospective students (recruitment focus), as well as parents, guidance counsellors, and alumni (awareness, engagement, and reputation focus). The Videographer has a strong belief in the impact of effective storytelling through video and the ability to deliver on that through excellent technical skills in video capture and editing.

Position Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the director, colleagues in the department, develop and manage a video work plan as a means of prioritizing important, high-value projects
  • Through personal research and in collaboration with other department members, develop ideas for potential video projects (people, events, milestones, programs)
  • Planning and executing projects, including scheduling, communication with departments and individuals to be featured in videos
  • Shoot and edit video content
  • Collect and archive releases from video participants
  • Maintaining and archiving video footage and edited video, for future use and/or reference                              
  • Liaise with external video firms, as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications/skills

  • A combination of formal education and direct work experience will be considered when assessing candidates’ qualifications.
    • A post-secondary degree or diploma in graphic design or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
    • One to three years of relevant experience; this can include work for an organization, agency, and/or freelance assignments.
  • Proven experience in developing video content
  • Comfortable creating videos in a variety of styles
  • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro, AfterEffects and/or other video editing software
  • A solid understanding of the video production process
  • Video capture
    • Ability to collect high-quality moving images using camera/lighting and video techniques
    • Record high-quality sound
  • Editing:
    • Create story-driven scripts, present compelling narrative
    • Editing final video incorporating (as required) moving images, still images, sound, sound effects, voiceovers, graphics
  • Solid understanding of creating video content to enhance social media posts
  • Experience in collaborating/ working with external vendors
  • Photography experience would be considered an asset
