University celebrates 21st year being named the #1 undergraduate school in Maclean’s magazine’s university rankings

SACKVILLE, NB — Mount Allison University was named the #1 undergraduate university in Canada for the 21st year by Maclean’s magazine’s annual university rankings.

The 2020 rankings, announced Thursday, Oct. 3, marked the 21st time Mount Allison has held the top spot since the rankings began in 1991.

Macleans_rankings_2020“The annual Maclean’s rankings are one of many external benchmarks that help share the Mount Allison story — our community’s successes and accomplishments — with a wider audience,” says University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jean-Paul Boudreau. “These types of reports allow us to reflect on who we are as a community and where we want to go as a university.”

Mount Allison also ranked first among primarily undergraduate schools for student satisfaction, faculty awards, library expenses, and in the magazine’s overall reputational survey, which includes views on quality and innovation from university faculty, senior administrators, high school guidance counsellors, and business leaders from across Canada. The University ranked second for medical and science grants, third for scholarships and bursaries, and fourth for student awards, student to faculty ratio (16:1), and operating budget.

“Hearing from our students, alumni, community members, and partners is essential as we continue to strive to offer one of the best undergraduate educational experiences and prepare our students for the 21st century workforce through unique learning opportunities, offered in small classes and through hands-on learning experiences,” says Boudreau. “I wish to congratulate the entire Mount Allison community for another fine showing in the Maclean’s rankings.”

The Maple League of Universities, of which Mount Allison is a founding member along with Acadia, Bishop’s, and St. Francis Xavier universities, all ranked in the top 10 for undergraduate universities. Individually and collaboratively, the universities work to deliver an extraordinary liberal arts and sciences educational experience and offer broad educational, cultural, and social opportunities that complement programs of study.

On Friday, Oct. 18 Mount Allison will welcome prospective students and their families and friends to campus for the annual Fall Open House event. The campus-wide event features presentations by student services and admissions staff members, faculty lectures, as well as special sessions for parents and guardians.
