SACKVILLE, NB — Jacques Bellefleur is the new Director of Athletics and Recreation at Mount Allison University. Bellefleur, who was previously Directeur des sports et du Centre sportif at Université Sainte-Anne, will begin his new role on Aug. 29, 2022. Bellefleur replaces long-time Athletic Director Pierre Arsenault who took on the role as CEO of USPORTS earlier this spring.

“We are pleased to welcome Jacques Bellefleur as Mount Allison’s next Director of Athletics and Recreation. Jacques has a proven ability to effectively lead large-scale projects, develop relationships with stakeholders and elevate team morale,” says Anne Comfort, Vice-President International and Student Affairs. “His experience as Chair of the ACAA’s EDI Committee will support the entire university as it continues to strive to be a more equitable, inclusive and diverse community.”

In addition to his leadership role at Université Sainte-Anne, Bellefleur worked as the Sports Coordinator for the 2019 Canada Winter Games and Volunteer Coordinator with Athletics Canada for 2018 Canadian Track and Field Championships. He has also worked with the National Arts Centre, SP+Gameday, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ National Organising Committee.
 
Originally from New Brunswick, Bellefleur holds a Bachelor of Science (Kinésiologie) from l'Université de Moncton and a Master's in Human Kinetics, with concentration in Sport Management from the University of Ottawa.

The Director of Athletics and Recreation oversees a broad-based athletic and recreation portfolio which includes programs, activities and services at the varsity, intramural, club, and recreational levels. Leading a dedicated and talented team of coaches, staff, volunteers, participants, and student-athletes at all levels of sport, Bellefleur will continue to build on the organization’s growing commitments to both student athletics and the wider community. Mount Allison athletics programming includes intramural, recreation, club, with representation in the ACAA/CCAA, and AUS/U SPORTS.
 
Over the past decade, athletics and recreation programming at Mount Allison has celebrated many successes. In 2013 Mount Allison hosted the first Uteck Bowl in the school’s history, and the first CCAA National Championships in women’s basketball in 2018. Alumni Field was constructed in 2015 along with a rebrand of Mounties athletics, including the popular Mountie Pride mantra. Many athletes have reached the standard of CCAA and USports ‘Academic All-Canadian’ - an achievement requiring high performance in both academics and athletics - with a record 101 Mountie student-athletes being named in 2020-21.
