October is widely recognized as Cyber Security Awareness Month and the Computing Services department is gearing up to launch their monthly cyber security campaign.

As we use more and more technology in our daily lives, it increases the opportunities for a cyber-attack. Therefore, cyber safety is essential. The cyber security campaign provides educational information to students, faculty, and staff to help them make safer choices online to protect their personal information, data, and networks.

This month, students, faculty, and staff can put their cyber security knowledge to the test to be entered for a chance to win one of three $50 Apple Gift Cards!

How cyber-savvy are you? Take the quiz now!

The deadline to take the Cyber Security quiz and be entered into the draw is Wednesday, Oct. 25. Three winners will be drawn at the end of the month and contacted via MtA email by John Gillis, Director of Computing Services.

“Protecting personal information is not just a responsibility; it's a necessity,” says Gillis.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) was introduced at Mount Allison in July, adding an additional layer of security to the login process to verify the identity of the person logging in.

Approximately 80% of the campus community are currently enrolled in MFA since July.

“Without MFA, the only information a cyber attacker needs to take control of an MtA account is the email and password,” says Gillis. “MFA is the best defense to protect both institutional and user information online and prevent unauthorized users from accessing MtA accounts.”

Find out more about steps you can take to increase your cybersecurity and stay tuned for more tips throughout the year.
