SACKVILLE, NB — Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David M. Shribman is the first speaker in Mount Allison’s 2024-25 President’s Speakers Series taking place on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Convocation Hall. Shribman will talk about and answer questions on the upcoming 2024 U.S. Election. Shribman served as national political correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, covered Congress and national politics for The New York Times, and was a member of the national staff of The Washington Star.

“This is a timely talk on a topic no doubt many of us are fascinated by,” says Mount Allison President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ian Sutherland. “What better way to kick off my first President’s Speakers Series, and who better to talk about this, than David Shribman. He is a renowned, award-winning political journalist and we are thrilled to have him on campus to speak about the upcoming U.S. Election.”

The talk is co-sponsored by the Josiah Wood Lecture Fund at Mount Allison University and the Donald J. Savoie Institute at the Université de Moncton.

Chair of the Board of Directors of the Donald J. Savoie Institute Jacques Paul Couturier is pleased that Mount Allison and the Institute were able to team up to bring Shribman to deliver the Josiah Wood Lecture.

“The topic is timely, given that the American election is on November 5, 2024 and its implications for both Canada and Atlantic Canada are far reaching,” he says.

A dual citizen of the United States and Canada, Shribman began his career at The Buffalo Evening News, where he worked on the city staff before being assigned to the paper's Washington bureau. He was a regular panelist on the PBS show Washington Week, has appeared on both Face the Nation and Meet the Press and is a frequent analyst for the BBC and CBC.

He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1995 for his coverage of Washington and the American political scene. He writes a weekly column, "My Point," syndicated throughout the United States and a biweekly column for the Globe and Mail.

Shribman will deliver the Josiah Wood Lecture as part of the President’s Speakers Series on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Convocation Hall (37 York. St. Sackville, NB). Full bio available at mta.ca/pss
