Summer MASSIE residence assistant application form

The summer 2024 MASSIE residence assistant (RA) position will begin on May 8 and finish on Aug. 9, 2024.  Application deadline: Sunday, February 18th 2024.

The MASSIE program is looking to fill two (2) RA positions for summer 2024.  RAs will live in residence with the summer MASSIE students as part of a team of Mount Allison student staff (stipendiary position). Are you looking to experience summer in Sackville?  Are you looking to discover another side of Mount Allison University through the international student community?

The MASSIE program has been running a summer program since 2001 and students from Japan have been coming to campus for a 13-week program during the summer months to have an immersive English language experience in Sackville.  There will be 14 students from our partner universities in Japan coming this summer.  RAs are assigned single rooms in residence and are responsible for the in-house supervision and care of the program's participants. RAs play a key role in helping students adjust to and get the most out of their time at Mount Allison. They are there when the groups of students arrive and remain actively involved in the students' daily lives. If you're planning to remain in Sackville over the summer, this is an excellent option to off-set the cost of housing and to make some new and lasting friendships in the process. Previous experience as a MASSIE conversation partner, International Mentorship (mentor) and/or Mount Allison residence assistant is an asset.

The summer MASSIE students arrive on May 10 and leave on Aug. 7, 2024.

Given the nature of the Residence Assistant position, a successful applicant will ideally* have the following skills, experience, and general qualifications:

  • A broad understanding of other cultures, values and countries;
  • A friendly disposition and approachable demeanor
  • Good knowledge of the region, Sackville, New Brunswick and major tourist destinations in Atlantic Canada
  • A flexible schedule for the summer that allows you to be available during MASSIE Orientation (May 10-12 2024) and at least one evening during the weekends for RA duty.**

* The International Centre recognizes that not all applicants will have all the desired skills and experience.  Preference will be given to those applicants whose skills and experience best match the needs and requirements of the position.
**Note that the MASSIE program encourages applicants to have plans to stay in Sackville for other reasons including taking Spring session courses or working either part-time or full-time in Sackville.

Compensation and pay for MASSIE Residence Assistants is as follows:

  • Complimentary single-room residence accommodation for the summer
  • A food stipend through Dining Services to eat meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) with the MASSIE students
  • The Residence Assistant positions (2) will receive a $500 stipend following the successful completion of duties.
