Our study abroad options
Study abroad options offer a chance to study abroad while earning credit toward your MtA degree. They vary in length, including for an academic year, for a semester, and during summer months.
Options include:
- Exchange programs — study at one of our international partner institutions in another country, and pay tuition to Mount Allison.
- Independent study abroad — study at an international university of your choice, and pay tuition directly to your host institution.

Other international opportunities
International experiences at Mount Allison include undergraduate research, international internships, conferences, and volunteering.
Some international experiences are available through academic departments and programs.
Some student-led clubs and societies also offer opportunities to volunteer abroad.

Past international experiences have included:
- English-language teaching assistant in Germany and Spain
- Crake Travelling Scholarship for Summer Study in Greece or Italy
- Global Brigades in Honduras
- Fine Arts field trip to New York City
Field schools
Field schools are short-term academic programs consisting of mentored field research — usually taking place during the summer and often abroad.
Some field schools available through Mount Allison:
- Archaeological excavation in Pompeii Summer Field School
- Utrecht Field School in Psychology (Global Skills Opportunity)
- Belize Field School for Indigenous students (Global Skills Opportunity)
Create your own international experience
Grants and funding are available for students to create their own experiences, including summer internships and volunteering.
Develop, plan, and implement your own experience during the summer with a host organization of your choice.
Funds may be used to cover or supplement the costs of transportation, subsistence, accommodation, supplies, and expenses associated with your experience.
Funding opportunities are available for both national and international experiences.
