Accommodations

UoN offers a range of on-campus accommodation at both the Callaghan and Ourimbah Campuses. For more information about living on campus, including different residential colleges, costs, how to apply, virtual tours of different room types, etc., click on the adjacent Accommodation link.

UoN endeavours to give an equal opportunity to all accommodation candidates and for this reason utilises a 'first-in-best-dressed' policy. Due to limited on-campus housing it is strongly recommended that students apply early and also consider researching off campus housing options. Applying early does not guarantee acceptance.

Visa information

Accommodations

Home-stay placements are provided for students studying at PUCV. Students living in home-stay will have their own room and are provided three meals per day. Arrangements for private accommodation can be made if necessary. 

Visa information

It is recommended that exchange students apply for the study visa at least two months prior to the start of their exchange.

SUMMER PROGRAM

A language and culture program is available through PUCV in the summer for those who wish to study Spanish in Chile. Prior knowledge of Spanish is not required. This program is not considered an exchange, therefore tuition is paid to PUCV for participation in their language and culture program.

Program dates: There are two available sessions, the first is from mid May to mid June, and the second is from late June to late July

Accommodations

City University provides on-campus accommodation but space is limited and not guaranteed. Students are advised to apply promptly according to the dates and procedures listed on City U's Student Residence Office website.

Students who are unsuccessful in securing on-campus accommodation should contact the Student Residence Office for assistance in finding off-campus accommodation.

Visa information

Any non-residents of Hong Kong who intend to pursue studies in Hong Kong must obtain an entry visa/permit for study as issued by the Immigration Department PRIOR to entering Hong Kong.

It normally takes six weeks or longer to process a student visa application. You are advised to apply well in advance to ensure that your visa is issued before the start of your exchange study.

For 2024-2025 two students from Mount Allison will receive a $5,000 scholarship to attend the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Accommodations

The Chinese University of Hong Kong is the only university in Hong Kong with a college system. There are nine Colleges and each undergraduate student is affiliated with one of the Colleges which offers accommodation, informal learning and academic and cultural immersion to students.

All students are initially admitted to an academic program but then must also be part of a College. Exchange students from Mount Allison each year will live and be part of Wu Yee Sun College "The Sunny College" therefore accommodation is guaranteed.  

The Colleges mission is to support "Entrepreneurial Spirit with Social Responsibility".

The College creates an intimate and dynamic learn atmosphere and students will develop the drive for social entrepreneurship, a passion for creativity and innovation, and acumen in pursuing new project and ideas, not just for personal gain but for the common good.

There are 302 twin rooms that accommodate 604 students.

The nominated exchange students from Mount Allison will live in a twin room and have a roommate. 

Visa information

Any non-residents of Hong Kong who intend to pursue studies in Hong Kong must obtain an entry visa/permit for study as issued by the Immigration Department PRIOR to entering Hong Kong.

Accommodations

Fudan provides on-campus accommodation but space is limited. Students are advised to apply promptly according to the dates and procedures listed on and in connection with Fudan's Foreign Student Dormitory page.

Students who are unsuccessful in securing on-campus accommodation should contact Fudan's International Students Office for assistance. Additional off-campus options available through Tohee International Student Village.

Visa information

Visit the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre to determine the type and cost of the visa you require.

Mount Allison students ordinarily apply for a visa through the Visa Centre at the Consulate General of China in Montreal (CGCM). The CGCM is responsible for all applications from New Brunswick. Contact the Consulate directly if you intend to apply at/through a different visa centre.

This exchange is ideal for MtA students taking a BComm or BA in International Relations, English, Economics, Commerce or Sociology.

Accommodations

All five campuses guarantee accommodation for students from partner universities if they have received a complete application by the application deadline.

Visa information

Any student studying for more than three months in Denmark must apply for a residence permit. Canadian citizens must apply for a residence permit through the Danish Embassy or Consulate in Canada at least three months before the semester starts.

Galapagos Semester Program

Fall term: Aug.-Dec.
Spring term: Jan.-May

Students select courses from one of four Academic Tracks in the biological and social sciences:

(1) Evolution, Ecology and Conservation

(2) Marine Ecology

(3) People, Politics and the Environment

(4) Sustainable Tourism

Each academic track consists of five intensive 3-credit courses taught in 3-week modules.

The first module takes place at USFQ’s main campus in Cumbayá valley, located just outside of Quito, followed by three modules that will take place in San Cristobal Island, Galápagos and then come back to the mainland where they will have an excursion to Tiputini research station in the Amazon Basin.

All courses are taught in English. Please note courses are subject to change.

Students can take up to two courses from different tracks, assuming they meet any necessary prerequisites and spaces are available (see Academic Tracks).

Students in all tracks also take a required Spanish conversation class (1 credit).

Volunteer placements (non-credit) in San Cristobal are also available to interested students.

The Strasbourg Program offers students the opportunity to spend a semester or year of study at the Institut International d'études Françaises (IIEF) at the Université de Strasbourg.

The program consists of courses in French language, plus electives in such subjects as history,  linguistics, political science, literature, and Francophone culture as well as recent additions in areas such as computer gaming and computer programming.

Coursework completed through this program may be applied to students' degree requirements for their major, minor or honours.

Costs

University fees: Mount Allison tuition for the duration of the exchange (one term or full academic year) + Backpack insurance fee of $252 CAN

Housing: in residence: $280 per month in university residences, and about $480 in non-university residences.

Food: In university restaurants, lunch and dinner cost approximately $4 per meal. There is no fixed meal plan; students can pay as they go. Students cooking for themselves should expect to spend about $75 per week on food. (All students can use university restaurants, whether or not they live in residence.)

Airfare: Costs vary depending on point of departure and type of ticket, but an open-return ticket, valid for one year, will cost approximately $1,200-$1,300 (CAD).

Airline regulations regarding availability of certain types of tickets are subject to change without notice, as are prices; a reliable travel agent is the best source of information.

How to apply

Please complete the Strasbourg program application form.

• A current unofficial transcript will be reviewed as part of the application process. Students do not need to supply an official transcript.
• Each applicant will be interviewed  as part of the application process. Interviews will be scheduled as soon as the application deadline has passed.
• applicants will be required to write the Mount Allison University French Placement Test once they confirm their acceptance.   Please note however the Mount Allison placement test does not replace or duplicate the placement tests administered at the start of the academic year in Strasbourg which are obligatory for all students entering the IIEF.

Please note that students from other universities must apply as a visiting student to Mount Allison in order to participate in the program.

If you are a non-MtA student you are required to do the following:

• complete a visiting student application for Mount Allison University. The $50 application fee is waived. Please note: you must indicate you are applying as a visiting student to the Strasbourg program so that this fee can be waived. 
• fill out a Letter of Permission through your home university and then submit a copy of your transfer credit evaluation form to provide proof of transfer credits toward your degree

In the event that there are more applications than spaces available, acceptance will be based on the following criteria:

1) eligibility and priority as indicated in the Eligibility Section above.

2) ranking according to academic standing at the time of application, and date of submission of application.

Acceptance

Admission to the program is at the discretion of the International Centre, and if needed, in consultation with the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

Notification of acceptance will be made as soon as possible after interviews

Eligibility

Students must have advanced French proficiency or be Francophone to apply for this exchange. 

In addition, a student must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA at the time of application. 

To apply, students have two options: 

• apply directly to this program for full entry for either one term or the full academic year 
• a student who has advanced French proficiency can choose to spend the fall term on the "Strasbourg Program" and then spend the winter term at the Institut D'Etudes Politiques (IEP)

Accommodations

Currently, six places are reserved in a university-affiliated residence for Mount Allison students. A number of additional spaces are available in an all-female residence plus a number of other spaces in a private mixed residence.

Canadian citizens who plan to stay in France longer than 90 days must apply for a visa before they go to France. They are required to present their visa application in person at the nearest consulate to them.

Accommodations

Residence is available for exchange students, but placements are subject to availability. Residence rooms have a private bathroom and students in residence will have access to a communal kitchen. All residence rooms come furnished. 

If you apply but cannot get a room in one of the university halls of residence, a list of youth hostels or homes will be sent to you by email. 

Finally, if you prefer to rent private accommodation, contact the C.L.O.U.S. (Local Centre for School and University Services), and they will help you find suitable accommodation.

Visa information

Canadian citizens who plan to stay in France longer than 90 days must apply for a visa before they go to France.

They are required to send their visa application by mail, in an express post envelope, to the following address:

Application processing times are between two and three weeks. The visa is free. Originals documents which are not photocopied will not be returned.

Accommodations

Accommodation is administered by the Studentenwerk (Student Services Organization, it is not affiliated with the University.) Students apply for housing online.

Contracts are available for the duration of a whole semester only. There is a 400 Euro deposit due upon arrival. Students can stay in their rooms until the end of their contract. Dorms are open year-round and students do not have to move out during breaks.

Visa information

There are two German Foreign Missions in Canada that accept residence permit applications from Canadian residents. You must submit your application only in person at the German consulate in Toronto or German Consulate in Vancouver.

Upon submission of all required documents, the residence permit application will be forwarded to the competent German Aliens Authority. Student visa applications take four to eight weeks to be processed.

After the application has been approved by the Aliens Authority, the German Foreign Mission will issue a residence permit in the form of a visa with the duration for the first three months. A final residence permit for the whole duration of studies will be granted in Germany by the Aliens Authority. The Aliens Authority requires all residence permit holders to register upon their first arrival.

This exchange is ideal for MtA students taking a BComm or BA in Commerce. 

Accommodations

There are 60 single rooms on-campus. All rooms have an ensuite shower and Wifi and are furnished with a bed, desk, beside table and wardrobe. Off-campus accommodation is also available in the local area.

Visa information

Any student studying for more than three months in Germany must apply for a residence permit upon arrival.

Single rooms in student dormitories are provided for students studying in the IUSP program and is included in the program fee (minus tuition).

Credit details: Gain 6 MtA credits — 3 in German language and 3 in the subject of your chosen seminar.

Cost: Tuition paid to Mount Allison for 6 credits. Program fee waived for nominated Mount Allison applicants, includes accommodation, meal subsidy, breakfast, Marburg public transportation pass, trips and activities.

Accommodations

Once an exchange students placement is confirmed, the International Education Division will send students an on-campus accommodation form.

A number of single rooms have been reserved for exchange students in the five student villages on campus. Campus accommodation is limited and is allocated on a first-come first-serve basis.

Booking forms must be accompanied by a 250 Euro booking deposit in order to reserve your accommodation. There are also several off-campus residences available for exchange students.

Accommodations

The Center for International Education and Cooperation at Kwansei Gakuin University guarantees accommodations to incoming exchange students and as a basic rule, this accommodation will be in the form of a homestay.

Students are nomally provided with their own room, furnished with bedding, wardrobe, desk, chair, and heater. While living with a host family, students are provided with breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday and three meals on Saturday, Sunday, and Japanese National Holidays. A limited number of dormitory spaces are available for exchange students as well.

Cross-Cultural College (CCC) Summer 2024 (August 2024) at Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan - Apply NOW (deadline to apply is February 19, 2024)

Join students from Queen's University, the University of Toronto, King's University College at Western and Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) as part of a jointly-developed certificate program that focuses on contemporary issues in Japanese and business, politics and culture. The aim of the program is to educate world citizens with the multicultural understanding and communication skills to enable them to be leaders of the future.

The Cross-Cultural College (CCC) summer 2024 Global Career Seminar (GCS)  begins in late spring with online sessions however the majority of the work occurs during the in-person programming in August.   This program occurs over the summer holidays at Mount Allison so students will not miss any classes at MTA.  

Global Career Seminar (GCS) in Japan

GCS in Japan is a 3-credit course, consisting of thirteen online pre-seminar sessions and then 8 days of collaborative in-person coursework.  

A total of 40 students will work together to analyze and solve real business issues posed by industry representatives.  Students will be assigned to groups and companies in April.  The course is taught in English. 

The companies and organizations that were involved last year (2023) were: Embassy of Canada to Japan, Garuda Indonesia, Kameda Seika, RICOH, Schneider Electric Ltd., The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan.  

The program fee for students is 77,000 JPY.  This includes the accommodation fee for 10 nights and the administration fee.   The program fee is paid to KGU.  

Students need to pay for their own transportation to and from Osaka, meals during the program and incidental costs as well as a 3-credit course at Mount Allison University.  

Students receive a transfer credits from this program. Each course transfers back as a COMM @ 2000 level.

Global Internship in Japan (GI) 

GI in Japan” is a 2-week, 3-credit course held in Japan from August 16th to September 1st

 After preparatory study at KGU from August 16th to 17th, each pair, composed of a student from KGU and a student from a Canadian university, will work together for 10 days, gaining practical experience in a real business environment in Japan. Internship locations will be allocated before students arrive in Japan, and they may be placed not only in the Kansai area, but also in Tokyo and other regions. After completing their internship, students will make a presentation and write a report on their findings.

The program fees for students is 196,000 JPY.    Accommodation is included in the program fees.

Accommodations

Due to limited space in dormitories for exchange students at Waseda University, some students make their own arrangements to reside off-campus in shared houses or apartments.

For students who wish to live in Waseda University's dormitories, there are several options. Applications for Waseda University's dormitory rooms are held immediately after the announcement of acceptance in June for students who will begin their studies in September. As priorities for dormitory rooms are given on a first-come, first-serve basis, student who wish to live in the dormitories are highly recommended to apply as early as possible.

Accommodations

The Hague University does not provide student accommodation but they are happy to help students find a room through DUWO, a housing agency specialized in renting reasonably priced furnished rooms to international students.

Like anywhere else, room prices are dictated by size, location and facilities. Newly arrived students starting an exchange program are the first to qualify for a reserved room.

Visa information

Canadian citizens do not require a visa but they do require a residence permit to stay in Holland for more than three months.

A residence permit is applied for at the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) within three working days after your arrival in the Netherlands.  The IND will place a sticker in your passport confirming your residence status, and a note that you are/are not allowed to work and that you do/do not require a work permit to work.

After two to three weeks, you will receive a formal decision from the IND regarding your residence status.

Accommodations

Accommodation options (e.g. residential colleges) at the University of Otago are in high demand, particularly for the February intake (Semester 1). 

Students coming to Otago in the July intake (Semester 2) will have more options, making this possibly a better start option for students coming to Otago for one semester only.

Applications for accommodation for Semester 1 need to be made before Dec. 1. Applications for Semester 2 need to be made between Apr. 1 and June 1. A popular option among one-semester exchange students is 'flatting' or sharing an off-campus apartment with other Otago students.  More information about 'flatting' can be found on Otago's Accommodation homepage.

Insurance

The New Zealand Government requires that all international students have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. Students will sign up for StudentSafe (Otago’s recommended insurance policy) as part of the online process.

Students wishing to have an alternative insurance policy assessed must apply up to six weeks before the start of their studies at Otago. Alternative insurance policies may be accepted if they comply with the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students insurance content requirements which may be found at http://www.otago.ac.nz/international/healthcare.html.

Any alternative insurance policy submitted less than six weeks prior to the start of the student’s course (as per their Offer of Place) will not be accepted for evaluation and they will automatically be enrolled in the Studentsafe-University scheme.

Visa information

All exchange students must obtain a student visa prior to their arrival in New Zealand. Students who do not hold a valid student visa and permit will not be permitted to enrol in any course at the University of Otago.

BI Norwegian Business School assists exchange students with finding student accommodation.

To benefit from BI's assistance, nominated exchange students must fill in a pre-application for housing. Student accommodation is usually the cheapest housing option in Oslo. It is also a good way to meet other students. 

Dormitories are spread out across the city. Some are situated close to campus, others are closer to the city centre or offer direct access to the nature areas surrounding Oslo. Prices and facilities vary.

Visa information

Canadian citizens do not need an entry visa to enter Norway, but must apply for a residence permit.

Exchange students can enter Norway before their residence permit has been granted or apply when they are already in Norway.

Students are strongly advised to apply from home. Canadian citizens apply online and then book an appointment with the nearest Norwegian Embassy or Consulate to submit your supporting documents.

After students have their appointment at the Embassy/Consulate, students need to book a new appointment with the Oslo Police District, Department of Immigration to have your picture and fingerprints taken for a Residence Card which is issued upon arrival in Norway.

Accommodations

Dongguk provides on-campus accommodation but space is limited. Students are advised to apply promptly according to the dates and procedures listed on and in connection with Dongguk's International Centre. 

Visa information

Canadian passport holders do not require a visa for the entry purpose of a short term visit (e.g tourism, visiting friends or relatives, attending business meetings) up to 180 days. Permission to stay is given at the time of entry. If Canadian citizens wish to engage in commercial activities during their stay in Korea, they must obtain a Korean visa.

Accommodations

The I-House provides students an opportunity to experience various cultures with students from diverse backgrounds. The buildings are equipped with common rooms, and facilities for academic, recreational, and cultural activities. As subsidiary facilities, there are computer labs, laundry rooms, reading rooms, seminar rooms, kitchenettes, ironing rooms, a gym, lounges, and a convenience store. Internet access is available in all rooms.

Visa information

Canadian passport holders do not require a visa for the entry purpose of a short term visit (e.g tourism, visiting friends or relatives, attending business meetings) up to 180 days. Permission to stay is given at the time of entry. If Canadian citizens wish to engage in commercial activities during their stay in Korea, they must obtain a Korean visa.

Accommodations

Most students prefer to live in shared apartments with other students. There is a reasonable range of furnished apartments. Linen is not included.

It is recommended that exchange students overnight in a provisional accommodation while searching for a permanent one. Two or three nights is the estimated time to find a permanent accommodation.

Visa information

Canadian citizens who reside in the Maritimes will apply for their study visa at the Consulate-General of Spain in Montreal. A long-term study visa application must be completed and then dropped off in person. The application fee must be paid at the time of drop-off.

It is recommended that exchange students apply for the study visa at least two months prior to the start of their exchange.

Accommodations

The choice of housing varies from campus to campus, but all types of student accommodation in Sweden are generally of a high standard, and students are usually offered a furnished single room or a small (shared) flat for around SEK 2,800 per month.

As a nominated exchange student to Mid Sweden University, students can easily book a room by sending an e-mail to the proprietor of their choice through the accommodation portal on the Mid Sweden website.

Visa information

Canadian citizens must apply for a residence permit at the Swedish Embassy or Consulate in Ottawa or Vancouver. This is usually time-consuming so it is wise to apply immediately after receiving notification of results/confirmation of enrolment at Mid Sweden University.

Accommodations

Bilkent University offers free on-campus accommodation for incoming exchange students. Subject to availability, this offer is valid for double rooms at Bilkent's students dormitories.

Students are expected to file their requests before the relevant deadline. Allocations are on a first come first serve basis. Room type may differ based on availability.

Students who want to stay in a single room can book a single room paying the difference.

Bilkent strongly recommends exchange students stay in dormitories in campus, so that they can learn more about Turkish social culture. Dormitories are located within walking distance to the classrooms, laboratories, library, sport facilities, and cafeterias. Accommodation is guaranteed for exchange students upon reservation.

The dormitories at Bilkent consist of 26 buildings with various designs and features, and provide a peaceful, secure, comfortable, pleasant and hygienic atmosphere for more than 4,000 students from diverse backgrounds who have chosen to take advantage of the excellence in higher education offered by Bilkent University. Bilkent's special and standard dormitories, all located on the Main and East Campuses, offer single, double, triple, quadruple, and suite accommodation alternatives for students, at varying rates.

Visa information

Students will need a student visa to enter Turkey. Students should apply for the student visa at the Turkish Consulate in their home country as soon as they receive their acceptance letter. Students should make travel arrangements accordingly, allowing adequate time for their visa to be processed prior to their departure.

Students are required to apply for a residence permit in person within a month of their arrival. This permit is obtained from the Ankara Emniyet Müdürlüğü (Department of Security). The Office of Exchange Programs personnel will accompany the student when they apply for a residence permit during orientation weeks.

Application fee: 100 USD or 75 Euros.

Accommodations

University accommodation is grouped into three Residential Villages: North, East and West.  The University of Bristol offers a range of self-catered and catered accommodation. Self-catered residences have kitchen facilities so students can cook on their own. All rooms are furnished. Exchange students are guaranteed an offer of accommodation for September entry, if students apply by the deadline. The university cannot guarantee a place for January students but they aim to place as many students as possible.

Accommodations

Students who start their studies in September are given the option of living on campus, providing they submit their application by the end of July.

Accommodation on campus is either in colleges or in self-catered houses or flats. Students who would prefer to live off campus can seek out their own private accommodation.

Accommodations

University of Stirling prioritizes accommodation for all new exchange students who apply by the advertised deadline dates. Accommodation will be in either University owned or managed housing which is located both on and off campus.

Off-campus accommodation is nearby in Stirling city centre, with easy access to University bus routes. Information about applying for accommodation will be sent after students are accepted to their course of study.

All accommodation is self-catered with kitchen facilities for students, and there are a number of catering outlets on campus.

This is a priority exchange for Music students.

Students from other faculties will be considered on the basis of space and availability.

Accommodations

BGSU provides a range of on-campus housing options. Shared double rooms, three-room apartments, single rooms, and super single rooms are among some of the options. Students should contact BGSU's Office of Residence Life for more details about residences, rooms, costs, and application procedures. Housing is assigned on a rolling application basis, so students are advised to apply early/according to stated deadlines.

Accommodations

GSU recommends that exchange students live in the University Villas. University Villas (UV) is Georgia Southern’s lakeside living environment and is a community for upper-class students who enjoy individual bedrooms with a large living room and kitchen, a swimming pool and a pond.

After acceptance, you will be given instructions on how to reserve your housing in University Villas. Students who wish to stay off-campus must reserve their own accommodations. Be sure to inquire about distance from campus and the possibility for a short-term lease.

The Killam Undergraduate Fellowships for Canadians

The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in Canada to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in the United States.

Mount Allison students may participate in the program either as a direct exchange student (registering at their home university, paying their home fees, and attending the host university as an exchange visitor) or as a self-placed visiting student (registering at the host university and paying host tuition fees).

Mount Allison students interested in the direct exchange program must be registered as a full-time student and be planning to return to full-time academic studies in the following year at Mount Allison University.    The list of participating American universities can be found on the website.  

The Killam Fellowships Program provides a cash award of $6,000 US per semester, health insurance, up to $800 for in-country travel during the exchange term, a fall orientation in Ottawa, and a spring seminar in Washington.

Mount Allison students who are interested in applying for a Killam Fellowship must complete the application and submit it to the Killam Fellowship program directly.  Applications are then forwarded to the International Centre and students will be inominated internally before being sent back to the Killam Foundation for final decisions.  Students normally are notified in March of their candidacy.    The application period for 2024-2025 academic year is now open.  The application deadline to apply is now January 10, 2024 (on the website it says the application deadline January 31st however this is when Mount Allison must have our nominations made by and sent to Killam). 

A completed application consists of:

• Killam application
• one-page personal statement
• CV or resumé
• list of interested courses at each preferred university with course equivalencies
• two reference forms
• official transcript
• photocopy of passport or birth certificate.
