How to receive your financial aid

Once you've accepted a scholarship, bursary, or award from Mount Allison, the value will be applied to your student account automatically in two equal installments — normally before tuition and fees are due each term.

If you have remaining funds (your financial aid creates a credit on your student account), you may request a refund by by e-transfer by completing the online refund request form located in your Connect account. Alternatively, you may opt to leave the credit balance on our account to reduce any future semesters tuition and fee charges.

By financial aid type

Entrance scholarships

Entrance scholarships are disbursed by term:

  • 50% at the beginning of the fall term
  • 50% at the beginning of the winter term*

You can review your student account and scholarship payments in Self-Service.

How funds are applied to accounts: In many cases your scholarship will be applied to your student account from a general entrance scholarship fund, therefore will see a line item with a generic label of entrance scholarship listed with the value of your award. Alternatively, your scholarship could be applied to the student account directly from the donor funds, in this case you will see the donor name listed on your account statement rather than a general scholarship line item.

Throughout the academic year, your entrance scholarship may be matched to a generous donor who will provide the funding for your scholarship. If this happens, you will be notified by email, then your account statement will be updated. You will see the general line item of your scholarship reversed and immediately reapplied from the donor's fund. Please note that your scholarship value does not change, simply the name of the fund. In some cases, you may be multiple donors and therefore may have multiple line items.

*Important note: Scholarship recipients who register in a part-time course load for the winter term are at risk of having their winter scholarship installment revoked. Should the scholarship holder register in 6 or less credits for the winter term, the Financial Aid and Awards Counsellor will contact the student to discuss course load and potential scholarship removal.

Major scholarships

Entrance bursaries

Bursaries are pre-approved on the basis of demonstrated financial need.
