Wellness Week — March 21-25, 2022

Let’s create a mentally healthy campus together. Join us for a week’s worth of wellness activities, March 21-25. Everyone is welcome, all events are FREE and lots of great PRIZES to be won. MONDAY, MARCH 21

10-11 am | Virtual Alumni Speaker Series Presented by the Psych Society — Joanne Humphrey

Joanne Humphrey grew up in St. Stephen, NB and graduated from Mount Allison in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After realizing there was a way to combine her passions for art and psychology she moved to London, ON to attend the Art Therapy program at the University of Western Ontario.

She is now a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario with over twenty years of experience in various sectors including interpersonal violence, criminal justice, addiction, and mental health. She is also a Professional Art Therapist and the past Vice President of the Ontario Art Therapy Association.

International experience includes volunteering at the West Africa AIDS Foundation in Accra, Ghana and training multidisciplinary teams for Drug Treatment Courts in Barbados and Jamaica.

Joanne works full time as an Addiction Counsellor with Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley Addiction And Mental Health Services in London, On and also provides psychotherapy as an associate at Oxford Psychological Services.

Trainings, workshops, and conferences continue to be professionally fulfilling as Joanne has always strived for excellence in her chosen field. She uses motivational interviewing and CBT techniques as well as art therapy interventions. Joanne is passionate in her belief that everyone has strengths and the capacity for change.

Join Artist-in-Residence, Tara Bursey for a Vinyl graphics workshop, at the Owens Art Gallery. Drop in to make art, de-stress, and support wellness at MtA.
 
6:30–8 pm | Virtual Burnout Boundaries and Balance Workshop

Are you stressed out? Feeling like you can’t catch a break with all your commitments? This session was made for YOU. Join us for an insightful presentation all about burnout, boundaries, balance, and practicing meaningful self-care so you can feel your best and do your best! This workshop will also be offered virtually at the link below.

12–1:30pm Crafternoons in the Mawita’mkw Room 130 in the Student Centre or Virtual

Open to all, drop in when you can. Bring your current project or start something new. Knitting, crochet, embroidery, needle felting, anything portable. Crafternoons will also be offered virtually at the link below.

8–9 pm Move for Mind ZUMBA in the Dance Studio

Join Adrie Cameron for a fun, Zumba-inspired dance class in the dance studio at the Fitness Center. This class will include learning and practicing dance routines to some of your favourite songs and is guaranteed to leave you feeling refreshed, re-energized, and smiling! Open to students of all dance levels!

Stop by to say hello to Maggie, Mental Health/Harms Reduction Educator and learn more about wellness week activities.  
 
7-8 pm YOGA in the Dance Studio

Treat yourself to some peace, smiles, and relaxation! Join the MtA Yoga Club and Navigate MtA in the dance studio for an evening yoga class. A perfect way to take time for yourself, take care of yourself, and feel the benefits of mindfulness and bodily movement that yoga brings. Everyone is invited regardless of your past experience in yoga.
 

THURSDAY, MARCH 24
 
12pm–1:30 pm Finding your Spiritual Groove in the Chapel

What makes you feel whole and alive? What activities do you engage in to feed your soul? No matter what faith, spiritual or philosophical background, come explore and build a toolkit to help you find your spiritual groove. With Rev. Ellie Hummel, Multi-faith Chaplain and Spiritual Care Coordinator at Mt.A Chapel.
 
1-4 pm "Know your status STI campaign clinic" at the Wellness Centre

From a Wellness Week initiative… STI tests are not a reflection of your behavior but rather a responsible health choice. The health services area of the Wellness Centre is excited to extend a COVID friendly, IN-PERSON health service for asymptomatic STI (Chlamydia and Gonorrhea) screening. Testing for an STI is as simple as a urination sample and providing your Medicare card. To schedule an appointment with the RN at the Mt A Wellness Centre, email wellness@mta.ca
 
6:30–8:30 pm Board Game Night in Gracie’s 

Join the Navigate team in collaboration with MASU at Gracie’s for a fun filled night of board games, snacks, and many fun PRIZES! To be won. The Pond will be open early with its wing special.

 

FRIDAY, MARCH 25

12–1:30 pm Fill Your Cup Friday Motivation Workshop in the Mawita’mkw Room 130 in the Student Centre

It can be tricky to get motivated and keep motivated.  Stop by for a workshop with Maggie about what you can do to support yourself, fill your cup and to build skills to create your own strategies to drive your motivation before exam season.
